It occurs to me this is an area ripe for scams. For example what is to stop me from creating a short story competition. I come up with a fancy literary name and charge $20 per submission with a prize of $100 for the winner, if I get 10 submissions I'm a $100 ahead ,if indeed I pay out the prize money. How can we be sure which competitions are genuine or scams. I realize some are easily recognized, but many are not? How easy would it be to take the money then issue a list of supposed winners, honorary mentions etc. Who is to know if its real, easy to make up a list of names and the internet is a huge place. Just my thoughts but I'd be interested in the views of others. __________________ irishrover |

I agree. There is potential for scams here. However, I'm not aware that any of these contests are misleading. An entry fee is a good way for a volunteer organization to obtain prize money. It might help if the contests were more transparent - reporting how many and how much was received. This might be especially interesting in the case of a WD competition or any other organization with giant mailing lists. __________________ Visit Author-Me.com today! |
